project 1 rough cut

this is the original scene:

two hands

I started filming it from :06

and this is my rough cut:

rough cut

I am still thinking about dubbing their voices in and I noticed that the first scene and Kristina's scenes are lower quality then the scenes were you are seeing Jason. Please let me know what you think so far?

  1. The 1st scenes are a bit blurry as you point out but I like how you mimicked the shots. The focus on her thinking at 00:31-00:32 just as you zoomed seemed a bit sharp but not sure if it was the camera or a glitch. I think more lighting would have helped but i suppose winter weather doesn't compare to the shining sun in a warm climate. There is an emotion from the picture I just wish you the best of luck if you dub in the voices as it would only make it better if your able.

  2. Hey rob! thanks for the input. Yeah I completely agree. It was really sunny that day so it was a bit hard to see those mistakes on the camera with little equipment to block the sunlight. I do agree that the first scenes are blurrier than the rest and there are still some parts that I have to cut out. I hope that I will be able to dub their voices in soon but thanks for the help.

  3. As I believe I mentioned before, you could hav used reflectors to get some backlight, depending on th sun. If you look closely at the original scene, the characters are very well backlit.

    Additional notes:

    1) the initial 2 shot's framing is off, at least compared to the original scene. Part of the assignment/excersise is to analyze the images and understand how they are framed and lit

    2) the camera movement appears jerky at times, which is fine, but I think you can cut around this to clean it up

    3) does one of the shots of Jason/Heath repeat itself?

    4) did you only shoot close-ups? There are over the shoulders as well, right?

  4. Yeah there were a lot of things I could have done differently. I was not the one filming it, only directing it, so I was a bit upset when I saw it was a bit shaky and I tried to cut it more to clean it up but it made it under the one minute time frame. Yes one of the scenes does repeat itself but only because the remaining footage its even more shaky and it wouldnt have looked good otherwise. I shot wideframe but completely missed the over shoulders scene, which I would like to re-do the entire scene if we have time to redo them again.
